The Barker brand began in 1880 when Arthur Barker, an innovative Northamptonshire boot maker, laid the foundation stone in a humble cottage. The Barker brand flourished in the interwar years as Arthur's three sons expanded into new markets and territories. In 1947, a factory was built in Earls Barton for women's shoe production, while a separate sales company was established in 1950.
